Marina Pacowski (Vocalist) Marina Pacowski, born in France and now based in Los Angeles, is a multiple award-winning Concert Pianist, Jazz Vocalist, recording artist, music educator and actress.
A vibrant and passionate artist, Marina has released two albums as a vocalist on Summit Records with the Who’s Who of the jazz world playing with her, including Roy Mc Curdy, John Clayton, Peter Erskin, Joel Frähm, Ken Peplowski, Josh Nelson. These CDs have garnered rave reviews and a lot of airplay worldwide, including KKJZ in Los Angeles. You can purchase them on this website.
As a classical pianist, she has recorded with Los Angeles Philharmonic bassist Jory Herman, as well as releasing on CD a piano concerto that was written especially for her by composer Frank Proto. With Proto she also released a CD-DVD in collaboration with virtuoso bassist Catalin Rotaru.
She is also a highly sought after collaborative pianist and educator, can sight read anything and is fun to work with!
Roy McCurdy (Drums) Before joining Cannonball Adderley's Quintet in 1965 and staying with the band until Adderley's death in 1975, he had played with Chuck and Gap Mangione in the Jazz Brothers (1960 - 1961), as well as with Bobby Timmons, Betty Carter and Sonny Rollins (1963 - 1964), appearing on the classic 1963 album Sonny Meets Hawk!
He attended the Eastman School of Music from sixteen to eighteen, during which time he also played professionally with Roy Eldridge and with Eddie Vinson at seventeen. In 1960 he joined the Art Farmer - Benny Golson Jazztet and remained for two years.
Among the influences he cites Louie Bellson, Shelly Manne, Sam Woodyard, Buddy Rich, Papa Jo Jones, Philly Joe Jones and the bands of Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford and Lionel Hampton.
He has also played and/or recorded with Count Basie, Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Joe Williams, Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, Art Pepper, and the jazz rock group Blood, Sweat and Tears.
He appears on the classic 1983 recording Jackson, Johnson, Brown & Company featuring Milt Jackson on vibes, J. J. Johnson on trombone, Ray Brown on bass, Tom Ranier on piano, and John Collins on guitar.
As of 2010, McCurdy is an Adjunct Professor in the Jazz Studies Department of the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.
Jeff Colella (Piano) Jeff Colella is an endlessly inventive, post-bop pianist, and one of Los Angeles' busiest jazz musicians. Besides performing as a solo artist and with his trio, he maintains a very active schedule as an accompanist, recording artist, composer, arranger, producer, clinician, educator, and author. His long touring stints include 16 years as pianist/musical director for the legendary Lou Rawls; seven years touring worldwide with the Jazz Tap Ensemble; and several years as Jack Jones' pianist/musical director. He has recorded and toured with a broad range of artists, including Diane Schuur, Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, Sheila Jordan, Kenny Washington, Anita O'Day, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Peter Gallagher, the Bill Holman Big Band, Stacey Rowles, Larry Koonse, Judy Wexler, David T. Walker, Bobby Shew, Bob Sheppard, Scott Whitfield, and Kevin Mahogany, among many others. His compositions have been recorded by other jazz artists, including Close Your Eyes from renowned saxophonist Bob Sheppard. His four albums as a leader include trio albums So Tender (2013), Alone Together (2007, Sea Breeze), and Letting Go (1997, Sea Breeze), plus his latest release, Lotus Blossom (2014, American Jazz Institute), a critically acclaimed duo recording with renowned bassist Putter Smith. Ken Wild (Bass) Born in New York City NY in 1951. Member of a military family which traveled extensively in early years. Learned clarinet in grade school, switched to saxophone in high school. The family settled in Hawaii in 1965, where he began playing bass in a trio with Dave Wild around 1966. Attended the University of Hawaii 1970 – 1972, studying bass with Armand Russell, but left before graduating to go on the road with Seawind. Early professional experience with performers such as Sammy Davis Jr. Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Barbara McNair and others.
Scott Whitfield (Trombone) Scott Whitfield (trombonist, composer, and arranger) is internationally recognized for his work with many contemporary big bands, including those of Johnny Mandel, Clare Fischer, Bill Holman, Bob Florence, the Phil Norman Tentet, and his own Scott Whitfield Jazz Orchestra. Whitfield's discography includes 14 recordings as leader and more than 100 recordings with other artists, most recently the wonderful and critically acclaimed debut recording of phenomenal French-born (and multi-awarded) jazz vocalist, pianist, and arranger Marina Pacowski.
Scott is currently serving as a producer and playing and collaborating with Ms. Pacowski, who just released her debut on the Summit Records label, "Inner Urge". From the first time the two met, Whitfield fell in love with Marina's incredible artistry, musical mastery, and creative energy and improvisational ability, and immediately volunteered to become her producer! "Inner Urge" has garnered rave reviews throughout the world and continues to enjoy global jazz radio airplay. The two also have a traditional New Orleans style band and a more modern jazz group.
Upon settling in New York in 1993, Whitfield became a member of the Nat Adderley Sextet, which also included Jimmy Cobb, Walter Booker, Vincent Herring and Rob Bargad. The group’s engagements at Sweet Basil led to fruitful associations with Frank Wess, Lionel Hampton, Wayne Andre, and many others. Whitfield has also performed in many Broadway show orchestras, and backed the likes of Robert Goulet, Vic Damone, Jack Jones, Frank Sinatra, Jr., and Marina Pacowski.
